President Lai Ching-te (\u8cf4\u6e05\u5fb7) said Taiwan will safeguard the achievements of its semiconductor and ICT industries and develop into one of the world\u2019s top five computing power centers, ensuring the nation\u2019s continued lead in global technology.<\/p>\n
Speaking Friday at the Double Tenth National Day celebration themed \u201cA New Taiwan Rises in a Time of Change,\u201d Lai called 2025 a year of Taiwan\u2019s rise. While the world faces conflicts and economic shocks, he said, the people of Taiwan have stayed resilient and achieved \u201can economic performance that has impressed the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lai described Taiwan\u2019s semiconductor, ICT, and electronic component sectors as the country\u2019s collective assets, forged through decades of industrial effort. \u201cMy mission as president,\u201d he said, \u201cis to protect these valuable achievements and use them to advance both Taiwan\u2019s and the world\u2019s growth.\u201d He announced three national strategies to sustain Taiwan\u2019s competitiveness: expanding domestic investment, deepening international economic and trade cooperation, and building a \u201cchain of guardian mountains\u201d to strengthen industrial capabilities.<\/p>\n
To adapt to the digital age, Lai said his administration would launch \u201cTen New AI Infrastructure Projects\u201d to solidify Taiwan\u2019s leadership in global technology. The government will also develop Taiwan into an \u201cAsian asset management hub,\u201d attracting foreign investment while retaining domestic capital to drive financial growth.<\/p>\n
Lai added that biotechnology and pharmaceuticals are key national industries under the \u201cNational Project of Hope,\u201d with a NT$10 billion (US$327 million) fund to spur innovation and make biomedicine another of Taiwan\u2019s \u201cguardian mountains.\u201d<\/p>\n
